Based on my commendable performance during my internship, I was extended a returning offer from The Boring Company.
In my role as an Integrations Engineer at The Boring Company, I go beyond the conventional responsibilities associated with the title. I have been entrusted with the integration of TBC's latest Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and have also been tasked with potentially leading the next tunneling operation.
For TBM integration, my workflow begins with receiving SolidWorks designs and models from the Mechanical Engineering department. Once I thoroughly understand the end-to-end functioning and operation of these designs, I initiate the integration process. This entails ordering long lead-time products, initiating essential production processes such as water-jetting, machining, and prefabrication, and having a comprehensive understanding of the order of operations.
To ensure continuous progress towards the company's goals, I kick off initial integration processes that don't involve long lead-time operations and aren't serially blocked. During this phase, I coordinate tasks among Build, Hydraulic, Electrical, and Civil teams. It requires me to raise potential flags, make on-the-fly design decisions, and plan for the testing of components before their integration into the machine—examples include hydraulic fittings, pressure and temperature transducers.
As part of my leadership role in the tunneling process, I am responsible for TBM navigation, guiding the mining team, and overseeing the inventory of all materials required for the mining process. I am also a key contributor in preparing the TBM for mining of our next machine (https://twitter.com/SERobinsonJr/status/1748452563932897378).
This multifaceted role demands coordination, quick decision-making, and a comprehensive understanding of various engineering domains, contributing significantly to the success of our projects at The Boring Company.
